Today I will justify yesterday's post (http://daxspeculator.blogspot.com/2008/02/lot-of-downside-in-gold.html) about the downside risks in Gold (and other commodities).
In terms of fundamentals, there are several concerns for the bulls:
1- The supply/demand equation is probably going to be reversed:
a) In a global recession environment, it is almost sure that global demand for commodities will be affected, even in the miraculous China, that is almost 40% dependent on exports. The only question here is how severe is going to be this recession, now predicted by more than 50% of economists: this will dictate how is going to be the correction in terms of percentage. I'm betting on a 50% correction but that's just a bet;
b) There are also issues on the supply side of the equation: a lot of production capacity increase plans has been started in the last 2/3 years but the effects are only starting to be felt lately because those plans take time to accomplish: you don't start to extract gold or crude oil the next day you decided it. There is a significant lag of time between that decision and the day the commodity gets in the market. There are environment studies, paper-work (licences,...) and the normal lead time that huge construcion/assembly plants like an oil platform or gold mines takes to get ready;
2- Most commodity stocks are ciclical (they depend on the prices of the materials they buy and sell) but there are currently been valued as grow stocks: this is a major - and repeated -mistake and investors will pay a high price for it.
In technical terms there is a also a great challenge for Gold investors. Gold is defying a colossal BARR (Bump-and-Run Reversal Top) in the weekly chart. Let me clarify that I'm not trading this pattern but I'm considering it as a reference for the next 2 years:

A LOT OF DOWNSIDE IN GOLD
Everybody knows that precious metal has started a bull market in 2001. I have been predicting a pause is this bull market since last year and, until now, my prediction has failed. One lesson has been learned: it is very dificult to predict when a bull market will pause/stop: it is much more easier catch the wave.
Dax Speculator will catch the next wave (the impulsive 3rd wave) but, for now, it is time to be very cautious about Gold: a 50% correction is very likely because a correction is always proportional to the advance, it is an action-reaction event! If Gold starts its correction at the 980 level, a 50% correction will bring it back to 620.

INTERPRETAR O VOLUME INTRADAY
3ª Resposta: Depende! Possíveis conclusões:
a) Se existe supremacia de calls no mínimo (ou perto do mínimo) do dia -> abertura de posições longas -> CURTO PRAZO MUITO BULL;
b) Se existe supremacia de calls no máximo (ou perto do máximo) do dia -> tomada de mais-valias -> CURTO PRAZO BEARISH;
c) Se existe supremacia de puts no mínimo (ou perto do mínimo) do dia -> fecho de posições vendidas -> CURTO PRAZO BULL;
d) Se existe supremacia de puts no máximo (ou perto do máximo) do dia -> abertura de posições curtas -> CURTO PRAZO MUITO BEARISH;
e) Se não existe supremacia de calls nem de puts no mínimo (ou perto do mínimo) do dia -> temos simultaneamente abertura de posições longas e fecho de posições curtas -> CURTO PRAZO MODERADAMENTE BULLISH;
f) Se não existe supremacia de calls nem de puts no máximo (ou perto do máximo) do dia -> temos simultaneamente abertura de posições curtas e fecho de posições longas -> CURTO PRAZO MODERADAMENTE BEARISH;

COMENTARIOS

SUPORTE!
RESISTENCE!
...at the long black candle in the Euro FX March 2008 contract within the 180 minutes (3 hours) chart:
This is a very important resistance and will give us an idea about the next great move, altought Dax Speculator already has a guess about it! :-)
In the U.S. Dollar March 2008 contract, the same resistence is at 75.78 but we are not there yet...

SHORT SQUEEZE...?
Dax Speculator is bearish in the long term for the equities market but, as a speculator, he must be aware of all possilities at any time.
For the next weeks, Dax Speculator sees a great probability of a short squeeze or even a rally. The S&P500 (SPX) at 1250 was a good value to start thinking in a short squeeze or even in a rally but, when speculating in the markets, you've to be like a Jaguar and anticipate the prey's next move. The daily chart shows a Hammer supporting this idea:

LISTEN TO THE MAN!
Warren Buffett said yersterday to the Financial Post, a Canadian newspaper, he is a huge bull on the U.S. economy: see here
It feels good to have a personality like him on the same side of the trade, if you now what I mean. ;-)
